Stewardship of Water

"God said, 'Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.' And it was so. God called the dry ground 'land,' and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good."
Genesis 1: 9-10

A few facts about water:

  • While 70 percent of the Earth is covered in water, only 1 percent is suitable for human consumption.
  • Over a billion people lack access to safe drinking water.
  • more than 5 million people die each year from water-related diseases
What can the faith community do?
The Eco-Justice website of the National Council of Churches has a very good resource, Water Stewards: A Toolkit for Congregational Care of Local Watersheds (free registration required). This guide provides tips and resources so that we can make wise choices and take positive actions to protect our watersheds for our generation and those to come.
