Protecting Our Water

UMC.org has an interesting video story of an Earth Day project. Methodist churches across northern Michigan set up collection sites for people to bring their outdated and unwanted pharmaceuticals.

The impetus for this program was a U.S. Geological Survey study that sampled 139 streams in 30 states and found 80 percent of them contaminated with trace amounts of chemicals commonly found in prescription drugs.

"The life of every river sings its own song, but in most the song is long marred by the discords of misuse."

- Aldo Leopold (1886-1948),
Sand County Almanac.
